The Romans waged war to gather slaves and wealth. Spain built an empire from its lust for gold and territory. Hitler shaped a battered Germany into an economic superpower. And Commander Erso tried to fight an uphill battle against the meta.

But war never changes.

Welcome to my take on a competitive Jyn Erso deck!

It was a long journey with many different versions - from double yellow to red to blue to finally green. While double yellow and the red suicide deck were also a lot of fun, I think this deck is by far the most competitive one.

But the best thing: This deck is thematic as hell.

It's the Battle of Hoth and you've got the toughest ragtag bunch of troopers on your side (Battlefield Marine , Echo Base Defender and Homestead Militia) as well as your hairy best friend Chewbacca for Jyn's personal protection.

But in war you won't get away with dominating only on one battlefield.

With Republic's finest pilot* Wedge Antilles you're strengthening the fight over space and ground due to vehicles like Bright Hope, Frontline Shuttle, Rogue Squadron Skirmisher and make even the lowest cost units like Patrolling V-Wing (don't underestimate card draw) somewhat capable.

(* = I beg to differ. Biggs Darklighter got a really sexy moustache so he's my favorite.)

In war you also have to have a really good organisation of your troops and distribute the goods where they need to be.

With Alliance Dispatcher and Bail Organa you're bringing in the right units at the right time and buffing them right before you're making a crucial trade-off with your unit surviving due to Jyn's special action. The synergy here saved my ass quite often. "Bend, not break" is the motto, because Offense wins games and Defense wins championships. But don't turtle too much. Be aggressive at the right time.

Don't fear your enemy.. you must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. You will face your fear, comrade.

The biggest strength of this deck is its flexibility. I never had the feeling I can't compete in one of the two arenas nor did I have a lack of possibilites to answer the challenges my opponent throws at me. In most match ups I've managed to keep Jyn Erso alive for at least 3-4 rounds to make even more favorable trade-offs.

I tested it against a lot of different top meta decks like Green Boba, Dominatrix Iden, Palpatine and Krennic Control, Sabine Aggro and Chewie.

The only struggles I've had was against heavy upgraded blue units like Chewbacca, Chirrut Îmwe and Luke Skywalker. Therefore I've included some copies of Asteroid Sanctuary and Waylay - to not let things get out of hand with ultra beefy and heavy hitting units.

Above all this deck is just a lot of fun with lots of interesting interactions and decisions. When to play or bounce back Admiral Ackbar with Bright Hope , which unit to pick to attack twice thanks to Frontline Shuttle, ambushing with Steadfast Battalion to kill off a 7 HP unit, healing up your base in no time with Colonel Yularen on the board while bringing up to three green units in with U-Wing Reinforcement..

..yadda yadda yadda...

BUT GUYS AND GIRLS.. HEAR ME OUT..

I've seen things, you people wouldn't believe.. Home One on fire off the shoulder of Bespin. I've watched Superlasers glitter in the dark, near the Outer Rim. All those moments will be lost in time, like your dominating board of units after the opponent Iden Versio played Superlaser Blast.

But the most unbelievable thing I've seen by far is a Strafing Gunship (equipped with a Hardpoint Heavy Blaster) shredding through enemy ground units and doing it all over again after sacrificing your Frontline Shuttle.

Watch. Enemy. Units. Die. Like. Flies.

That's all folks.

P.S.:

You can try to Disarm your enemies and put an end to all this bloodshed and cruelty. But always remember: "The war does not end when people put down their guns. It ends when they reconcile. Until then, the war has only paused."

UPDATE v2:

Switched up the sideboard with more Saboteur units like Lando Calrissian and Rogue Operative for heavy shielded defenses as well as more flexibility with what to put in the ressources (also I just love Lando). Also dropped the copies of Bamboozle because you want to dominate the board instead of just exhausting the enemy. All in all I consider the deck complete for the most part. For me it mostly comes down if go with 2 x Disarm for quick to medium match ups or 2 x Waylay for longer games with high end heavy hitters in the enemy deck. And if I'm feeling really funny I sneak another copy of Hardpoint Heavy Blaster into it.
